In 2026, the options for building a website have grown to the point where they can overwhelm business owners, and not always in a positive way.
I remember back in 2013 when the big three website builders were WordPress, Wix, and Squarespace. One or most of these platforms were able to accommodate a small to medium-sized business and appeal to their needs and goal metrics.
But over time, things have grown much more complicated for the common business owner.
! Important Note! This post is not meant to bash one option over another or glorify WordPress as the only option to choose. Each business is unique and has different needs, and our main core focus is helping business owners truly retain website ownership, but more on that later. (No. I want to know that about now.)
We are not in 2013 anymore. We are getting closer to 2027, and the website market looks completely different now. And with that comes a plethora of options to choose from to build your website, from WordPress, Wix, and Squarespace to Shopify, Weebly, and GoHighLevel, to name a few.
Now each of these builders serves their own purpose, but it’s up to the business owner to understand their modal and what they will/will not do. And for a business owner, they don’t have time to add that big headache to their plate of already overdue tasks.
Now, what does any smart business owner do when they come across a valuable asset, but have no time to do it themselves? They usually outsource it, some outsource overseas, while others prefer a more local approach.
The issue is. While some builders are a great choice for common small business owners, like WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, and Shopify, to name a few. Other builders are more of a sales funnel, which might make their decision harder in the long run due to a business owner needing to better understand the platform, often requiring a maintenance service paired with a service provider.
Recent website usage data still shows WordPress as the largest CMS by a wide margin. According to W3Techs, WordPress is used by about 41.5% of all websites and holds about 59.3% of the known CMS market. Shopify, Wix, and Squarespace follow behind at much smaller shares, with Shopify around 5.2%, Wix around 4.3%, and Squarespace around 2.5% of all websites.
That does not mean every business should automatically choose WordPress. What it does show is that business owners are choosing from a very crowded mix of platforms, including open-source systems, hosted website builders, ecommerce platforms, funnel builders, and managed website services.
The real question is not just “what platform should I use?”
The better question is: what platform gives my business the right balance of ownership, flexibility, cost, SEO control, and room to grow?

Learn MoreWhen business owners think of WordPress, they often assume it is all the same, but there are actual variations of WordPress that are worth understanding.
WordPress.org is the open-source WordPress software. This is the version most people are talking about when they say they want a WordPress website with more flexibility and control.
With self-hosted WordPress, you choose your own hosting provider, install WordPress, and build the site using themes, plugins, and custom tools. This gives a business owner more flexibility, but it also means the website needs proper maintenance, updates, backups, security checks, performance review, and SEO attention over time. WordPress.org describes itself as the home of the open-source WordPress software, including access to themes, plugins, documentation, and the wider WordPress community.
WordPress.com is a hosted version of WordPress. That means hosting and much of the technical setup are handled through WordPress.com instead of a separate hosting provider.
This can be a good fit for some simple websites, blogs, or business owners who want a more guided setup. The tradeoff is that your flexibility, plugin access, theme options, and control can depend heavily on the plan you choose. WordPress.com’s own support explains the basic difference clearly: WordPress.com includes managed hosting, while WordPress.org requires you to find and manage your own hosting.
GoDaddy Managed WordPress is WordPress hosted inside GoDaddy’s managed hosting environment. This means the site is still using WordPress, but the hosting, setup, and certain management pieces are handled through GoDaddy’s system.
For some business owners, that can be convenient. For others, it can still feel limiting depending on the site’s needs, plugin setup, performance goals, or how much control they want over the website long term. GoDaddy describes its Managed WordPress hosting as an optimized hosting platform for building and managing WordPress sites, with maintenance, installation, and performance optimization included in its managed setup.
We prefer to build using WordPress.org, the reason being that it gives complete ownership to the consumer (You) without needing to be forced to use our service. Furthermore, it gives more flexibility to WordPress plugins, better SEO optimization controls, and a strong peace of mind knowing you own your business website. Every website requires website hosting, but with WordPress open source, you are not tied to a closed-ended provider like GoDaddy.
We can’t speak for most businesses as each one is unique and has its own way of operating. What we can say is that NventSolution was founded and shaped as a service that benefits small businesses and large corporations. Our Website management plans make it easy to get what you need for your website, without having to shell out $1000+ every month. Our website designs are also one-time fees because we don’t believe a website build should be a continuous payment agreement.
